Oats are a wonder food that is known to soak up all the cholesterol like a sponge from our body. This Oats Buttermilk or Oats savory porridge with buttermilk is very light on the stomach and adds more fibre to our daily diet and is also low in calories.
If you are a diabetic, instead of drinking hot beverages during break time, you can have this oats spiced buttermilk without any guilt.
I pack a bottle of this buttermilk to Hubby daily to drink during the break time as he wanted to reduce his daily intake of coffee and tea and also the sugar.
You can also make this as a thick porridge and have it for breakfast, especially when you are on a diet.
As this oats spiced buttermilk also happens to be a no onion no garlic recipe, it is perfect to have on a fasting day.
If you do not like adding raw oats, then you can use cooked leftover oatmeal too.
Instead of quick cooking oats, you can also use gluten-free rolled oats, but you need to soak them in water for 20 to 30 mins beforehand to soften the oats so that they can blend well into the drink.
Recipe Notes
1. Black salt has immense digestive properties, if you do not happen to have it at hand then use regular salt.
2. The chaat masala powder adds a tangy taste to the drink, if you do not have it then add ½ teaspoon of lemon juice to pep up the drink.
3. If carrying this oats spiced buttermilk in a bottle, then it will separate, so shake it well before drinking.
