  • Strawberry - 400 gms or 2 carton
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp


  • Wash and hull the strawberries.
  • Cut the bigger berries into quarters and smaller berries into half. Discard tender and bruised part of the fruits if any.
  • Place the chopped fruits in a deep thick bottomed bowl and add the sugar. Mix well with a spoon
  • Let it rest for 4-5 hours. Keep mixing the fruit every half hour with a spoon.
  • After 5 hours the sugar would have completely dissolved and the fruits would have softened.
  • Place a steel or ceramic plate in the freezer.
  • Place the fruit bowl on the stove and cook over low flame.
  • Using a masher keep mashing the strawberries gently while they cook.
  • After 5-7 mins add lemon juice and keep cooking over low flame till the mixture starts to become glossy.
  • This will take 12-15 mins.
  • Take the plate from the freezer and drop a dollop of jam on it and let it be for 30 seconds.
  • Draw a line through the middle with your finger. If the line stays put the jam is of the right consistency.
  • If the line merges together then the jam is still thin in consistency, so cook for another 4-5 mins over low flame. Strawberry Jam is ready.
  • Take the bowl off the stove and let it cool completely.
  • Transfer to a sterilized clean jar and store in the refrigerator. Always use a clean spoon.
