Exam time has started and the pressure on the kids makes them binge on fried delights more often. At these times it becomes our responsibility to make sure that the kids eat proper diet and eat healthy snacks at regular intervals. These baked chick peas is one such healthy snack that the kids would love to munch on. My Grandmom and mom roasted them over the stove top but ever since I got the oven I have been roasting the chick peas in the oven only. It consumes very less oil and makes an absolutely guilt free snack.
Baked Chick Peas / Baked Garbanzo Beans
You’ll need:
Our Favorite Video:
Chick peas / Garbanzo beans (Dry) – 1 cup
Lemon Juice – 2 tsp
Red chilli powder – 2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Garam Masala powder – 1 tsp
Oregano / mixed herbs – 1/2 tsp
Sugar – 1/2 tbsp
Salt – to taste
Oil – 3 tbsp
Method:
Soak the chick peas over night in enough water. Pressure cook with salt till they are soft when pressed between the fingers. In case you are able to get canned chick peas you can skip this step.
In a wide bowl whisk together all the other ingredients till smooth. Add the cooked chick peas and mix well. Refrigerate for 2-3 hours.
Preheat the oven to 220 Degrees C. I used the tray that I used for my Pizza. If you don’t happen to have one arrange the marinated beans on an aluminium foil. Bake for 1 hour. After 1/2 hour I opened the oven and shook the pan to help them bake evenly. Mine got done in 50 min flat.
Don’t bake them longer as the beans will become hard on cooling back to room temperature. Store in a tight container and enjoy this guilt free snack as you wish.

I just feel like scooping some and throwing them into my mouth…ahhhh irresistible peas! 🙂
What classic captures Radhika ! I loved all of them. The recipe looks perfectly tempting.
Radhika:
They look perfect.
I did not understand why should we refrigerate it.
Thanks,
Hema.
The salt added may make the peas moist so it is best to refrigerate to help keep dry as the peas will remain crunchy even after baking and will not become soft.
wow….superb dear…

wow!! thanks for such a great snack..
Looks awesome
can’t wait to try this one! Yum!!!
LOVE this idea and can’t wait to try it. I’m new to pressure cooking and know that you can’t open the pot to test to see if they are soft. How many minutes in the pressure cooker or how long on the stove?
Thank you!!
With the flame in medium, you can wait for 4-5 whistles by the pressure cooker. Wait for the pressure to release, open and check if it soft. If not once again close it after making sure there is enough water and cook for 2 more whistles. That should do.
Will definitely be making these. Thanks Radhika, this recipe is so inspiring!
