Mango Green Smoothie Recipe. An incredibly refreshing morning smoothie that is bound to kick you awake with its surprising ingredients.
This smoothie happens to be vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free. It does not have any extra sweeteners.
The surprising ingredients are the addition of mint leaves, ginger and fresh lemon juice which makes this morning smoothie oh so refreshing.
Watching me drink smoothies daily, one fine morning out of curiosity hubby asked me to give him a smoothie too for morning breakfast.
Usually he is a person who likes to eat a proper breakfast of idli with any chutney.
But ever since that day somewhere at the beginning of this year, he has totally shifted to drinking smoothies often for his breakfast.
He says it is much more filling….gasp…surprise!!!
But even he draws a line at drinking raw green smoothie which happens to be my absolute favorite.
Our Favorite Video:
I got the idea of making this smoothie with the said ingredients when I was making the green chutney for chaat the other day.
I’m glad that I gave this idea a try otherwise I would have totally missed out on a really delicious smoothie.
After I made this smoothie and took a first sip, I insisted that he give it a try. And told him that if doesn’t like the taste, I would be happy to drink the entire glass.
After the first reluctant sip, when I reached to take the glass, he just waved me off and drank the entire thing… wow… not just liked it but he loved it.

The Ingredients Break Up:
Liquid Base: You can use any liquid base to get the smoothie consistency. Try adding regular milk or any plant based of your choice. You can also try it by adding coconut water or just plain water.
Spinach: If you can get hold of organic, its the best choice. I do not get baby spinach at my place. So from the spinach bunch, I sort and use only the tender leaves and the more mature leaves go into a stir fry or kootu.
Mango: Go for the ripest fruit. This not only adds more flavor but also acts as a natural sweetener. Also choose a variety that has more pulp and less fibre in it.
Banana: The basic thumb rule of any smoothie would be to add frozen fruit base, especially the frozen banana. This gives the smoothie a creamy texture and also acts as a natural sweetener.
Mint leaves and Ginger: Do not miss out… I repeat again, do not miss out on both these ingredients. Both these gives the smoothie, the much needed zing apart from being healthy.
Lemon juice: I squeezed the juice of 2 small lemons and added it to the smoothie. Adjust the quantity according to your preference. I would like to give this a try with freshly squeezed orange juice also.
Ice cubes: Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on this one. But do not replace ice cubes with chilled water.

What about the add-ons to the smoothie?
You can add Matcha powder, Spirulina and Vegan protein powder.
You can also add chia, flax and hemp seeds.
If you do not mind the smoothie being non vegan, then you can add whey protein and collagen.
If you want to add additional sweetener, then you can always go for honey, cane sugar, dates or stevia.
You can also use brewed green tea as the liquid base for added benefits. It is also a good way to drink it if you do not happen to like the taste of green tea.
